I'm a HOMEOWNER!

Where to even start, I guess with this,

I BUILT A HOUSE.

I’ve mentioned it a few posts before, but it’s been a while so here’s the update! What a whirlwind 6 months it has been. I signed the contract in February and things took off from there. I picked out brick & trim, hardwood, tile, grout, backsplash, cabinets, handles, lighting fixtures, plumbing, appliances, EVERY LITTLE DETAIL. When I say ‘I’, what I really mean is ‘we’. My mom went to EVERY SINGLE APPOINTMENT with me. That means the plumbing place twice, the interior place twice, Lowes at least 15 times (I was super indecisive), 5 different lighting stores, the appliance store, and multiple shopping trips for decorations, which are (thankfully) far from over. She’s a saint people. She never one time complained or said that she was too busy. She didn’t let me settle, if I didn’t find something I just loved, we went somewhere else. So when I say ‘I’ picked out every little detail, I really do mean ‘we’.

I travel A LOT for my job. It’s extremely rare that I’m home 7 days in a row, especially during the summer, so building a house during my busiest season probably wasn’t ideal. I honestly couldn’t have done this without my parents. Not only did they check on the progress while I was gone, help put extra insulation in the walls, pick up deliveries that were ready, they also did a walk through for me when I was at a conference. They have been the most supportive, kind and patient people. THANK YOU will never be enough for them. I’m forever blessed with the example they give and the life they lead.

A lot of people have asked me “you’re building by yourself?” and “why since you’re never home?” Don’t get me wrong, I have thought about all of that and more. I may not be married, but I have worked hard to get where I am and am proud to build a house at 26, by myself. I may not be home every day, but when I am home, I want to be ‘home’, to have somewhere to unwind and relax. This is an investment, something that has given me pride and more strength and life lessons that I could have ever imagined. This was not easy, by any means. Things didn’t always go as planned and I wasn’t always happy with the way things were handled, but at the end of the day, it all worked out just fine. To those people that have been nothing but supportive and encouraging, you have touched my heart and I am more thankful for you than you know.

Since my new house is on the way to and from the office, I went by almost every day that I had the chance. I wanted to have plenty of pictures to look back and see the progress, because if you’ve ever built a house, sometimes you feel like the process is c r a w l i n g. But in reality, these past 6 months FLEW by and I have a house! I closed 3 days ago, and am still letting it sink in. It’s beautiful and I’m so happy with the final product. Over the next few days, I’ll be moving and settling down at my new address and can’t wait for everyone to come visit.

It's with a grateful heart that I share my pride and joy, and hope you ENJOY, because I sure have.

xoxo
Samantha
